Anthropomorphangelists

Today is the feast of St. Mark, one of the four Evangelists. I had planned to do a post about how the evangelists came to be symbolized — Mark as a lion, John as an eagle, Matthew as a man, and Luke as an ox.

Alas, Fr. Ryan Erlenbush has beaten me to it:

And as for the likeness of their faces: there was the face of a man, and the face of a lion on the right side of all the four: and the face of an ox, on the left side of all the four: and the face of an eagle over all the four. (Ezekiel 1:10)
