Things really heat up in the southern part of the country!
Church Madness 2016
Happy feast of St. Joseph! In my opinion the southern bracket is the most competitive of them all. It has been a challenge to find photographs that do justice to each space. If you happen to have better photographs of any of the churches in this competition, I would be happy to feature them and grateful for the help!
Here are our competitors:
Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Mobile, Ala.) — nominated by Jason
Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption (Covington, Kent.)
Our Lady of Walsingham Cathedral (Houston)
Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Savannah) — nominated by Justin
Immaculate Conception Church (New Orleans) — Of all the amazing churches in New Orleans, I included this one because of its unique Moorish influences, visible on Google Images — with thanks to Jim for the suggestions
St. Joseph Church (Macon, Ga.) — View photo via parish website
Cathedral of San Fernando (San Antonio) — nominated by Mary
Sacred Heart Church (Galveston) — view photos on Google Images
Chapel of St. Cecilia (Nashville Dominican Motherhouse, Nashville) … bonus double photo!
Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Charleston)
Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery (Hanceville, Ala.)
Oratory at Ave Maria University (Ave Maria, Fla.) — in fairness, I should note that this oratory looks the way it does because it had to be hurricane-resistant. You may vote however you like but I thought it worth mentioning, given the unique style of this space.
Cathedral of Saint Stephen (Owensboro, Kent.) — view photo via apimagery.com
Cathedral of San Juan Bautista (San Juan, P.R.) — view photo via thecompletepilgrim.com
